Beginning in July of 2017, the West Medford Community Center has offered a monthly series we have called “First Friday Words and Music.  This is an ongoing program where we provide a discussion of some topic of community concern, followed by live music performed by local musicians.  It is our belief  that “social justice” and “performing arts” are compatible, and you can come for conversation, and stay for the music, or come for the music, but get engaged in the conversation. It all works.

These events are open to the public and there is no charge to attend.  These are held from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, the First Friday of every month.  While those who attend in person have a unique experience, these programs are “live streamed” over Medford Cable Channels “3” (for Comcast subscribers), Medford Cable Channel “47” (for Verizon subscribers) and on the web at www.medfordtv.org.  It is also carried after the fact on Sommerville Cable Access TV (The Sommerville Line)  Additionally, most of these are then archived on youtube for those who cannot be here in person.
