Senior Happenings at the Center
It is our belief that our “Senior Citizens” have been, are now, and will continue to be an invaluable resource. All our offerings for these Seniors are aimed at assisting them in remaining independent, contributing, and self-empowered members of the community. While the program is located in the West Medford Community, participation open to anyone.
The West Medford Elder Services Program at the West Medford Community Center is designed to provide a stimulating, nurturing gathering place where Seniors can find social and intellectual interactions that will leave them better for the experience.
The target population for our Elder Services programming would be those Seniors (62+) who are still living at home, but would benefit from the combination of the stimulation that comes with ongoing social interaction and targeted supports.
We have (and will continue) to provide presentations on other topics specific to the needs of this population, such as “Asset Management”, “Estate Planning”, “Home Organization”, “Nutrition as you Grow Older.”
It is also our belief that finding opportunities for “celebration” is a key component to helping Seniors remain engaged and independent. We have, and will continue to, support several events annually to provide the Elders in the area with opportunities to gather in joyful community. Some of these have included: Barbeques, a Caribbean Cultural Fest, “Dance Calente,” Black History Film Series, and others.
These services are made possible through funding from the Federal Community Block Grant, administered by the City of Medford, Office of Community Development, and is administered by our Director of Elder Services: Terry E. Carter.
Senior Lunch Bunch —-
Tuesday through Thursday, year-round open to all community seniors over 62 years of age —- The meal provides nutrition, the socialization provides sustenance

Senior Yoga with Rosa Brown
Tuesday morning, 11:00 am until Noon —- Suggested Donation $5.00
With a grant from the Mass Yoga Network, Certified Yoga Instructor Rosa Brown brings the joy of yoga to all in a safe neighborhood setting. Using a chair and standing yoga postures, seniors can develop their flexibility, strength, balance and concentration. Students learn yoga breathing and relaxation techniques for better sleep and general well-being. They also practice yoga postures for better balance. Rosa’s exercises are adapted to meet individual needs and conditions such as arthritis and osteoporosis. Seniors will learn how they can help prevent falls, manage stress and improve their mental focus.
Sisters-in-Sweat Exercise Group
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:30 to 10:30 am

Senior Knitting Club
Open to all ages and skill levels, the club meets every Thursday at 1:00 p.m.
Folks can knit, crochet, and the like with help from experienced crafters. Donation of $1.00 is recommended. Always looking for new members!
Sit with the Social Worker
Karlene Bognani, LCSW, is available for conversation and advice every 4th Thursday of the month, from noon to 1:00 p.m.
Monthly Blood Pressure Screenings
Free to all, BP checks and conversation with a registered nurse is available every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, from noon to 1:00 p.m.
